Presentation of Six National Certificates to one Student.
At a function held in Tauranga, a presentation has been made to one student, of six New Zealand National Certificates, in Driver Education and Heavy Transport Driving.

Bill Gibson-Patmore, Training Director of Drivers on Call Limited, was presented with the six certificates by Chris Fryer, the Northern Regional Manager of TRANZQUAL Industry Training Organisation.
On congratulating Bill, Chris (pictured above on the left) said "We believe this is the first time a student has achieved such a broad range of these qualifications, and it underscores the value of the NZQA and TRANZQUAL Industry Training Organisation system".

Whilst Bill has had wide experience of professional and commercial driving involving many aspects of road transport, and he was also a very experienced adult educator and commercial driving tutor - with over three thousand delivered lessons to his credit - the study towards these higher level National Certificates was seen as a means of verifying that experience with a set of formal (and relevant) qualifications, The NZQA supported TRANZQUAL ITO system of qualification was the means to achieve such certification.
An intensive course of study towards these qualifications was necessary, and Drivers On Call chose Vertical Horizonz Group (VHG) as primary supplier of the necessary training and assessment. The lead tutor and assessor on the project was VHG's Bill Hadley.

The Vertical Horizonz Group is an NZQA approved Private Training Establishment (PTE) with a nationwide presence. Their core business focus is industry based training and assessment in most industrial disciplines, from transport, through workplace health & safety to professional development.

Drivers On Call Limited is a nationwide company established by Bill and Judy Gibson-Patmore to assess, train, and qualify, professional heavy truck drivers; and to supply them as a contract relief driver service to various Road Transport Operators throughout New Zealand.
Bill has been awarded these New Zealand National Certificates in topical fields of Commercial Driving and Driver Education to support that operation and assist all their contract staff and clients. He is also qualified as an NZ Transport Agency approved driving Instructor in all classes of driver licence instruction.

To meet these values the directors chose to implement assessments and training plans for all staff, based on the TRANZQUAL Industry Training Organisation administered Unit Standards library, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority's NZQA Framework. Unit standards implementation is the only robust and universal form of industry recognisable performance measurement. 
Bill and Judy have also chosen to assist and support all staff to work toward formal qualifications and recognise their skills with New Zealand National Certificates. Again, the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) framework and unit standards system, along with TRANZQUAL ITO's administration of those standards and certificates was specified as the primary training standard.
On the job assessment - using unit standards - of all Contract Drivers is an integral part of the Drivers On Call business.
