Presentation of Six National Certificates to
Drivers On Call's Staffing Director .

Drivers on Call Staffing Director, Bill Gibson-Patmore, certainly knows what it’s like to be in the shoes of an up and coming professional driver.

The Tauranga man recently achieved six New Zealand National Certificates in Driver Education and Heavy Transport Driving making him one of the best qualified driver managers in New Zealand.

Bill was presented with the six certificates by Chris Fryer, the Northern Regional Manager of TRANZQUAL Industry Training Organisation.
On congratulating Bill, Chris (pictured above on the left) said "We believe this is the first time a student has achieved such a broad range of these qualifications, and it underscores the value of the NZQA and TRANZQUAL Industry Training Organisation system".

Bill has had wide experience of professional and commercial driving involving many aspects of road transport.
He is also a very experienced adult educator, has Instructor endorsements on all classes of licence, and previously as a commercial driving tutor had over three thousand delivered lessons to his credit.

However, he says, the study towards these higher level National Certificates was a means of verifying that experience with a set of formal and relevant qualifications.

The certificates were achieved over an intensive three-month period of assessment and examination.

“It was seen as a confirmation of my skills and knowledge and we were certain it would be in the best interests of our company, our staff and our clients.”

“It also means I really know how the study and assessment system works at delivery level having recently completed it myself. I can manage assessment of our people to the highest level possible through the NZQA and Tranzqual system.”

Drivers on Call is a nationwide company established by Bill and his wife Judy to assess professional heavy truck drivers; and to supply them as a complete and managed contract relief driver service to various road transport operators throughout New Zealand.

"We want a driver supplied by Drivers on Call to be the best available relief heavy truck driver to meet the specific needs of the assignment he or she has been placed on. That person will be safety-conscious, drug-free, properly licenced, verified with the best skills,  and committed to excellence in delivery of that assignment.”

To meet these values Bill has chosen to implement programmed assessments and development plans for all staff and to support them to work towards formal qualifications, based on the Tranzqual administered Unit Standards library, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority's NZQA Framework.

“Unit standards implementation is the only robust and universal form of industry recognisable performance measurement,” Bill says.

"On the job assessment and verifying skills, while advancing all Contract Drivers towards formal qualifications is an integral component of the Drivers On Call business."
